The Mental Health, Law, and Policy Institute (MHLPI) at Simon Fraser University is committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165). Our privacy policy with respect to the website and its contents (the “Website”) is summarized below.

COLLECTION, USE AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

“Personal information” is personally identifiable information such as your name, residential address and e-mail address.

IP Addresses

The Website records the IP addresses of website visitors. The Website also tracks sites that users visited immediately prior to the Website, search terms visitors use to find the website, the pages visited on the Website, the amount of time spent on those pages, and the type of searches done on them. Searches remain confidential and anonymous. The MHLPI only uses this information for statistical purposes, to find out which pages users find most useful and to improve the website.

The Website may place cookies on your computer to track your movements through the website over time. Cookies used by the Website are session based, and therefore only last for the duration of the user’s session. They are not tied to a specific identity – they store no identifiable personal information about you.

The Website will collect additional Personal Information only when you choose to provide it to us for the purposes of subscribing to our newsletter, requesting information regarding our services and products, completing an on-line assessment or similar purposes.

The MHLPI may from time to time share your Personal Information with selected third parties acting on our behalf as our agents, suppliers or service providers, in order to more efficiently provide information, products and services you request from us. The MHLPI provides those third party service providers with your Personal Information only to the extent as is necessary in the circumstances (i.e. your name and mailing address may be disclosed to our couriers for the purpose of delivering printed materials you order from us).

Information provided to third parties may be used only for the purpose stipulated and is subject to strict terms of confidentiality.
